Welcome to Boys Town Ruai, a place where boys
can get a family that loves, shares and cares
The Mission of the Institution is to rehabilitate and develop children in special circumstances, boys from the streets or out of school due to socio-economic and psychological factors, boys from poor and vulnerable families as well as those from dysfunctional families to achieve holistic transformation. The mission is achieved under the following objectives:
Our desire and practice are to ensure that the boys have a balanced diet of three meals a day. The home, with support from the boys, grows some vegetables in the farm, but all other foods must be bought from the market. We also get food donations from well-wishers depending on the economic situation in the country with high and low times. It costs at least $50 to keep a boy in school for 1 month. faucibus est.
The current structures are dilapidated and worn out as they were constructed over 15 years ago as semi-permanent structures. Even in this state the boys really suffer during the cold season as they get very cold and very hot during the hot season. This facility will be complete with inbuilt bathrooms and toilets. The estimated cost is KSH 5 million, complete with beds ($31,250).
Since the year 2022 the government of Kenya-Ministry of education announced changes to the education system with the introduction of competency-based curriculum. This requires pupils to join junior secondary school after grade six. Each class would cost Ksh 1.5 million ($9,375) x3=$28,125.
Currently, the center does not have a proper dining hall that can also double as a multipurpose hall for meetings with guardians and well-wishers.
The current chicken house is the traditional one which does not promote commercialization of the project as both to support the nutritional needs (eggs & Meat) but also for income generating and sustainability (buy feeds, pay some bills).
